When your baby has finally arrived, you want to get back into shape, but you feel tired and your baby needs a lot of care and attention so it’s hard to find the time and energy to work out. The good news is that you don’t have to find a baby sitter every time you want to work out. There are many ways in which you can work out with your baby so you can spend quality time together and have fun. Here are a few of our favorite ways to work out with baby.

Taking it easy

The first thing to do is give up expectations of the hour-long workouts you used to do before you had your baby. While you can definitely work up to that in the future, you have to give yourself time to recover and get into a new routine. That means that you shouldn’t expect to work out for a full hour; just pace yourself and see how you and your baby feel.

If you feel tired or your baby needs attention, then call it a day. Start with ten to fifteen minutes of exercise a day and then gradually increase the time as you feel stronger and your baby settles into their routine.

Take a stroll

This is an easy one to do and a great one to start with. If the weather is nice, had out to the park or take a stroll around the neighborhood; you and your baby can get some sunshine and fresh air. Use your stroller or a sling or harness for a tougher workout.

Use a jogging stroller

As you get stronger, you can switch to a jogging stroller and alternate between jogging and walking until you can take a jog with your baby. Many jogging strollers also convert to bike buggies so you can choose to jog or ride your bike. This is great for mixing it up and keeping it interesting.

Your kids are never too young to exercise

Instilling healthy activity levels is much easier if you start early on. Make sure that your kids get moving from the start by encouraging crawling and walking through play. Get moving yourself with bike trailers and baby joggers. Babies find these activities soothing and it’s great for them to get outdoors while you get a workout.

Family outings

Exercise as a family. It doesn’t have to feel like exercise if you turn it into play. Swimming in the pool, playing catch on the lawn or family biking outings are all good ways to get your little ones moving. If you are going for a walk, encourage participation with ride-on toys.
